Cal the Cow was born on Valentines Day, 2006. He was gift from Cadet Daisy Lopez to our ASI, MSgt Deos. His first trip was to the Texas Tech Drill Meet later that month when it was learned that he was not female; he's a male cow with utters! That day it also became tradition that Cal stand beside the Drill Team Commander during awards ceremonies and he is squeezed to "utter" his famous "moo" at the
announcement of Cooper as an award winner. He subsequently accompanied the team to the Tarleton State Drill Meet and the Corsicana Drill Meet where he participated in the Drill Down (being tested only for bearing of course, since he can't perform any actual drill movements). He later went with the team to Six Flags in Arlington where he had his picture taken with all the
Looney Tunes characters and the League of Nations, was a performer in the Musical Revue, and rode the world famous "Titan" roller coaster. He toped off his day by
bungee jumping with Cadets Andrew Morton, Juan Delacruz, and MSgt Deos. He was a guest of honor at the annual corps Dining Out in April 2006 where he was seated at the head table. The slideshow depicting the year in pictures included a "where's Cal" contest. He later attended the annual Cooper/Abilene High AFJROTC combined picnic where he nearly drowned in the waters of Nelson Park Lake. After the school year he was a guest instructor at the TX-794 hosted Cadet Command and Staff School in Brownwood, Texas. Cal had an interesting summer in 2007 when he went to the San Angelo Summer Leadership School where he ran the obstacle course and Cadet Command and Staff School where he hung out with some babes at the pool. Cal started the 2007-2008 school year strong but has since lost his voice. He is considering retirement and the rumors are that a "new" Cal could be "mooing" soon! In February 20008 it was learned that not only is Cal a "male cow with utters", but he can also give birth! Just before the drill team's trip to the AF National Drill Meet at Texas A&M, Cal Junior the III Squared appeared (CJIII2). These two smaller versions of Cal are rumored to be a result of a stem cell research project gone terribly wrong. But, they do have strong voices and hope to be mooing the team to a National Championship! Ok, so the Cal saga never ends. In the Fall of 2009 after CJIII #1 lost his voice and CJIII #2 lost his head, and new Cal, "Cal IV Real" showed up on the Cooper campus. It was learned that this "Cal" was from England but was free from Mad "Cow" disease. His voice is as strong as ever, his first public appearance was at, of all places, the "Cowtown Drill Meet in Fort Worth, he's been roller skating, and he even invented a new sport, "Cal Ball" at the Texas Tech Drill Meet when the Cooper cadets, joined by many cadets from other schools, found a way to kill time before the awards ceremony. What antics will Cal come up with next? You'll just have to check back and see! :)
